| Burglar makes off with two pairs of panties
A Fort Walton Beach burglar recently lifted unmentionables from a mobile home during a break-in. The resident of a Heritage Road mobile home told a deputy she noticed the rear door to her trailer "slightly open," according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office offense report. She also said someone had removed the window unit air conditioner and opened the window. Among the items missing from the home were her son’s Sony Playstation and a controller ($200), about 20 games ($15 each), about 10 DVDs ($15 each) and two pairs of girl’s panties. .
How a 5-foot waterboy at Texas became a football icon
The powder blue '95 Oldsmobile heads down Guadalupe Street, slightly above the speed limit, air conditioner full blast. The driver, 78-year-old William E. " Rooster " Andrews , has been animatedly telling stories for nearly four hours, first in his Rooster Andrews Sporting Goods office, then during lunch at Trudy's Café. But now, during a late-afternoon errand, his distinct and, yes, rooster -like, scratchy voice takes on a reflective tone. .
Ask the Carey Brothers: Cleaning vinyl siding
Q. I have a small, portable one-room air conditioner that I've used for several years. Now, some of the grease has leaked from the rear of the unit onto the vinyl siding of my house. How do I clean it off? A. Always try soap and water first or the cleaner that is recommended. Having said that, and because the grease you're describing is probably a petrochemical based material (not silicone), it can probably best be cleaned using something like gasoline or acetone. First, make sure there are no flames or sparks nearby, and turn off and disconnect any nearby appliances that could spark while you're working. No smoking during this project. Then, simply put a very small amount of gasoline onto the rag and wipe. The stain will disappear. .
REP. RON KLEIN REFUSES TO REMOVE KEITH ELLISON FROM ANTI-SEMITISM TASK ...
Both MAS and CAIR had recently been named by the U.S. government as being part of the Muslim Brotherhood, and CAIR had been linked by the FBI to Hamas. According to Kogen, Rep. Klein approached Ellison to ask him about the information he (Klein) received from his meeting with AAH, and Ellison told him that he had "publicly denounced" and would continue to publicly denounce the anti-Semitism from the groups (MAS and CAIR). Kogen told Kaufman that Rep. Klein was satisfied with Rep. Ellison's statements to him and that they were consistent with the principles of the anti-Semitism task force. However, Americans Against Hate points out that, to its knowledge, never has Keith Ellison publicly denounced any of the organizations in question. He has never denounced the anti-Semitism from the groups nor any of the terrorist connections of the groups.
Sealing house can enhance air quality, inhibit mold growth
Dear Jim: My children have allergies to mold. I want to make my house more airtight for better energy efficiency, but I heard this can exacerbate mold problems. What safe efficiency improvements can I make? - Karla S. Dear Karla: People often think airtight, musty, mold-ridden indoor air quality is the price one has to pay for greater energy efficiency. Actually, making your house more energy efficient can positively affect air quality.First test your house for mold. Several laboratories offer home mold test kits. For a "viable" test, you grow your house test samples in a petri dish. At IMS Laboratory, it costs only about $10 for the kit. If you find mold growth, they charge about $35 more to analyze the mold types. Some types of mold cause few problems, while others are quite toxic.A better test is "nonviable" test, where the sample is analyzed for many types of mold.
AC on cold morning leads to Estates grow-house bust
An air conditioner that was in use on an unusually cold morning helped lead investigators to a suspected marijuana grow house operation in Golden Gate Estates. Delfin H. Puentes, 39, of Fort Myers, was arrested Thursday and charged with marijuana trafficking -- more than 25 pounds -- and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. Reports say Puentes operated a marijuana grow house at 1781 8th Ave. N.E. Earlier this month a deputy on patrol noticed that an air conditioning unit was in use at the house on a cold morning. As the deputy approached the residence, he could smell the odor of growing marijuana. The house appeared to be vacant at the time. Around 10 a.m. Thursday, a blue Nissan Pathfinder driven by Puentes left the house, traveling 51 mph on Eighth Avenue Northeast, where the posted speed is 35 mph.
