Mike Chappell: Colts Q&A Archives

It might be a shock to their systems if they are asked to sit and watch a game when the temperature is 45-50 degrees.

Question: I just cant get psyched for this upcoming game at New England. The Patriots are so injury riddled that they dont even resemble the old Patriots. Its not a Colts/Patriots game. Its a Colts/Patriots replacement game. Dont be fooled by this potential victory in Foxborough. You agree? (L.M. from Indianapolis)

Answer: No, I dont. The Patriots might not be at 100 percent, but theyre still the Patriots. Theyre still a quality team that will be playing at home on Monday Night Football. Theyve still got Tom Brady and all of those receivers and Corey Dillon still can be productive. The defense always finds a way to get the job done. Remember the playoff game last season when New England had so many defensive backs out? The replacements came in and played well.

LOCAL ECONOMY: Staffing may have soft year Housing recovery's pace ...

Economists and employment consultants are predicting a soft year ahead for hiring in Las Vegas and Nevada, as sustained lethargy in the housing market combines with slow growth in the resort sector to cap expansion ambitions among area businesses.

Researchers at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas' Center for Business and Economic Research are forecasting 2.1 percent job growth for Southern Nevada in 2008, while analysts at the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation said they expect job formation to clock in at 1.9 percent statewide next year.

Those numbers are well below the state's 5 percent and 6 percent job-growth rates of 2005 and 2006, but they're an improvement on the 1 percent pace of recent months.

The employment department isn't expecting a dramatic turnaround in job growth because economists there predict new jobs in residential construction will be hard to come by for much of 2008.

Computerworld: 15 iPhone 2.0 fixes

It's conceivable that Apple could update the current crop of iPhones via software updates. Are you listening, Apple?

1. Get on the 3G train

Let's start with the most obvious shortcoming: The fact that the iPhone is tied to AT&T's old EDGE wireless data network instead of the technologically superior 3G network. One of the things that makes the iPhone revolutionary is its unprecedented use of the Internet. No other cell phone or handheld on the market offers the full-featured, Web-browsing experience of Safari mobile (to say nothing of YouTube, Maps or other Net applications).

But the EDGE data service is too slow for many Internet tasks, especially downloading large amounts of data, such as a graphically intense Web page or a video from YouTube.

Cosmic chic 2010

The scramble to be the first to put ordinary tourists in space is on. While private space pioneers paid $20-million for the privilege of spending a week at the International Space Station, those who have a mere $200 000 to spare can set their sights on an hour or so in sub-orbital space as soon as next year. But what to wear for the occasion when you walk up, or down, the gantry and have the eyes -- and perhaps cameras -- of the world upon you? Orbital Outfitters has the answer: the IS3C, the first commercially available sub-orbital space suit. The suit was designed by Chris Gilman, a Hollywood special effects guru who has designed spacesuits for movies such as Space Cowboys and Deep Impact. Gilman is backed by a team of aeronautical engineers and space-medicine experts. Orbital Outfitters (OO) is one of a slew of small companies in the “New Space" movement, often staffed by ex-Nasa scientists determined to see many people in space in the next decade.
