German Firm To Bring 289 Jobs
A German company that makes compressors for industrial air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment is planning to open a manufacturing facility employing 289 people in the East Syracuse area, state officials say. Gov. Eliot Spitzer mentioned the plans by Bitzer Scroll in his State of the Upstate address Jan 16 in Buffalo, but he made no mention of it when he spoke later the same day to the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce's economic forecast luncheon. A Bitzer Scroll representative said Monday the company was planning a formal announcement about its plans and he could release no details until the announcement was made. State and local officials would normally make a big deal when a manufacturer decides to open a plant and create nearly 300 local jobs.
IT U.S. Antitrust Court Slams Microsoft With Two More Years of ...
Despite the circus-like atmosphere punctuated with laugh-inducing testimony, United States v. Microsoft, which went to trial in 1998, remains one of the landmark federal court decisions of the 90's. It paved the way for other government bodies worldwide, such as the European Union, to successfully pursue antitrust cases against Microsoft and other electronics giants like Intel. Microsoft and the government reached a settlement in which Microsoft agreed to grant third-party developers access to its application-programming-interface and additionally give a court appointed panel of three people full access to it's systems, records, and source code for five years in order to ensure compliance. The oversight was supposed to expire November 12, 2007, but the court was not entirely satisfied with Microsoft's progress, so it decided to meet again to evaluate a possible extension to oversight if Microsoft was found not to be fully complying.

Finally! A leggingless Lohan. LL returned to the red carpet last week in a hot LBD but this is the first time in a while we have seen her casually dressed without those hideous leggings or tights she has been living in. It's too bad that the one time she ventures away from the security of having her legs covered that she doesn't have any friends to tell her that her ass is hanging out. So sad and yet so typical. Lindsay spent the weekend shopping, lunching and meeting with friends. Her fun routine is about to be interrupted with a trip to the morgue and watching what goes down in an ER as part of her requirements set in her DUI plea agreement.
